High Highs-Once Around The House

The brand new indie-pop-folk-rock duo from Australia "High Highs" is our new entry to #LOMW. They only became a band in 2013 and they are already pretty big in USA with their debut album "Open Season" released. Jack Milas and Oli Chang are behind the mysteriously sweet song "Once Around The House". When you watch the music video and listen to the harmonic vocals you can catch yourself dreaming for a while... Read the lyrics and watch the music video here.

High Highs-Once Around The House

The night time for to talk in
the night time for the tow

The home was restless and alone
buried in the snow

The wind blew down the chimney now
it left the fire dead

I'll curl once around the house
and hurry on to bed

I wonder if you sat down, try not to worry

Iron & Wine-Joy

Sam Beam is the name behind the "Iron & Wine". Sam was raised in South Carolina, in 1974. He took his stage name from a dietary supplement named "Beef Iron & Wine" that he found in a general store while shooting a film. "Joy" is a song about love and how love can make you change your points of view about anything around you. The music video was produced and directed by Hayley Morris and it is basically the narration of the lyrics made by stop motion landscapes and hand made items. En-Joy it here.

Iron & Wine-Joy

Deep inside the heart of this troubled man
There's an itty bitty boy tugging hard at your hand
Born bitter as a lemon but you must understand
That you've been bringing me
Joy

And I'll only lie when you don't want the truth
I'm only frightened 'cause you finally gave me something to lose
And it's as loud as a thunderclap and you hear it too
But you've been bringing me
Joy

Deep inside the heart of this crazy mess
I'm only calm when I get lost within your wilderness
Born crooked as a creek bed and come to confess
That you've been bringing me
Joy

And when I'm alive, I'm living for you
Another bluebird dying, but for singin' the blues
And it's a heartfelt silly sort of bumblin' tune
About how you're bringing me
Joy

Συνέντευξη: The New Tigers

LOMW: Καλώς ήρθατε στο LOMW! Μπορείτε να μας συστήσετε την μπάντα σας και να μας πείτε από πού ακριβώς απαντάτε τις ερωτήσεις μας;
TNT: Είμαστε οι “The New Tigers” από το Turku στην δυτική ακτή της Φιλανδίας. Είμαστε τέσσερις: Appu, Janne, Valtteri and Ville..
LOMW: Πώς σας ήρθε να ονομάσετε έτσι το γκρουπ σας;
TNT: Η συνηθισμένη ιστορία, μας φάνηκε καλή ιδέα τότε και έτσι κι έμεινε! Υποτίθεται πως έρεπε να είναι κάτι που να ακούγεται αστείο όπως «πώς θα μπορούσε μια τίγρης να είναι «καινούρια» ας πούμε;

LOMW: Στο Facebook είδα ότι αποκαλείτε την μουσική σας fuzzy pop. Μπορείτε να μας εξηγήσετε αυτόν τον όρο;

LOMW: ‘Εχετε ήδη προφίλ και λογαριασμό στο Facebook , στο Soundcloud, στο Twitter και στο Last.fm άλλα όχι στο YouTube. Γιατί συμβαίνει αυτό;

LOMW: Ποιο είναι το πιο όμορφο πράγμα που έχετε γράψει ποτέ στην ζωή σας ως μπάντα και από τι εμπνευστήκατε;

LOMW: Ποιο κομμάτι θα θέλατε να διασκευάσετε αυτήν την στιγμή και για ποιόν λόγο;
TNT: Το "La la la means I love you" από τους Delfonics επειδή είναι ένα όμορφο τραγούδι.

LOMW: Ποια είναι τα σχέδιά σας για το μέλλον; Άλμπουμ, συναυλίες, ένα ταξίδι στην Ελλάδα;

meaning: moro vaan!

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros-Life Is Hard

We spoke before about those crazy folks, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros! Now, they are back with the very new release of their single "Life Is Hard" taken from their third album. They got some time to record a live performance and turn it into the music video of this single. Alex Ebert, the vocalist of the band, says that instead of making a lip-synced video clip like everyone else does, we'd rather present what we are good at, and this is our live performances. This song will make you feel happy while you realise that your life is pretty hard. Watch the music video and read the lyrics here.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros-Life Is Hard

Life is beauty through and through
Life is sunny, life is cool
Life is even easy too
But if my word is to be true
Life is something to behold
But if the truth is to be told
Let us not leave out any part
Do not fear, it's safe to say it here
You will not be called a weakling
Nor a fraud
For feeling the pain of the whole wide world
You want to help but can't help the feeling you cannot
And it's killing you while you're just trying to smile from your heart
So go on, say it, on the same knees you're praying
Yes, life is hard

Come celebrate
Life is hard
Come celebrate Life is hard
All life is all we are

Celebrate it in the sun
Promenade it with everyone
Elevate it in a song
And I'll be there to play it, don't get me wrong
When I feel like dying and being gone
When life is hard
There's just one thing, let's not forget
Yes! Life is it!

Life is it, life is it, it's where it's at
It's getting skinny, getting fat
It's falling deep into a love,
It's getting crushed just like abut
Life there's no love, it's getting beat into the ground
It's getting lost and getting found,
To growing up and getting round
It's feeling silence, feeling sound
It's feeling lonely, feeling full
It's feeling oh so beautiful!
Yes!

All life is all we are

Big Scary-Luck Now

The "Big Scary" is an indie-pop duo from Melbourne! It's not the first time LOMW hosts a band from Australia and definitely not the last. They have this garage-rock style and they sound too natural! "Luck Now" is a song with a few words but solid meaning, describing the exact sound of the heart, we all lose every day. Dark and insane. You can watch the music video and read the lyrics of "Luck Now" here.

Big Scary-Luck Now

You see my love is no formal position
You say my love is just cold repetition re-done
I fear that I'm another acquisition
I fear that I'm now just pure imposition my love
You see that I'm losing the heart
You see that I'm losing more heart every day
I remember the heat at the start
Then the sound of my feet as I walk on my way

William Fitzsimmons-If You Would Come Back Home

William Fitzsimmons is basically the reason I've started to listen to indie-folk music. His songs was played at the background of Grey's Anatomy so I had to find out who was singing. He was born and raised by two blind parents. They taught him how to listen and play good music. He is the owner of a master in Counseling  and he worked as a therapist before he turned into a musician. His music is inspired by the divorce of their parents and by his own divorce. Both first and second album are full self-produced at his home. The music video of his song "If You Would Come Back Home" is directed by Josh Franer . Together they won an award for a documentary short film for "Finding Home". This video clip is full of symbolisms and it shows how simple things in an abandoned home keep William connected. Enjoy the music and the read the lyrics here.

William Fitzsimmons-If You Would Come Back Home

There's room between your heart
And the chair where I've been sleeping
The place that we called home
Will someday watch you leaving

There's room between today
And the last time that I saw you
The pictures in my brain
Will fade until I lose you

If you would come back home
We could start all over
If you would come back home
I swear it would be better

There's room left in the house
There's food still in the pantry
I could fix you lunch
Or take you out for coffee

If you would come back home
We could start all over
If you would come back home
I swear it would be better

Call the surgeon.
Mend the pieces.

Interview: The New Tigers

One more time we welcome on LOMW a band with a crazy name! Are you ready to meet them? Cool music, people! Cool music.

LOMW:
Hello and welcome on LOMW. Could you introduce your band to us and tell us from where you are answering this long distance Q&A?
TNT:
We are The New Tigers, from Turku on the west coast of Finland. There's four of us: Appu, Janne, Valtteri and Ville.

LOMW: How did you get this idea for such a crazy band name?

TNT: The usual story; seemed like a fun idea back then, and then it just stuck.
It was supposed to be something a bit silly sounding, like how could a tiger be "new" anyway?

LOMW:  On Facebook I found out that you call your music “fuzzy pop”. Can you explain to us this term?
TNT:  It’s very melodic, but at the same time quite distorted, so it’s straightforward and hazy at the same time.
It's hard to find a name for your music. Calling it for example "shoegaze" or some other genre that already exists would just put it in a narrow little box, and we don't want to be there. So, we know it's poppy, as in quite catchy and melodic, but it also has this other noisier nature. I guess fuzzy pop sums that up quite alright.

LOMW: Do you believe that social networking has helped bands like yours to build their audience and in what way?
TNT: I suppose they have. We are not super good on networking in the internet but at least it’s easy for folks to hear us and see our videos, and we try to keep our facebook page interesting. Mostly we just concentrate on the music though.
LOMW:  You have already profiles and accounts on Facebook, Soundcloud, Twitter and Last.fm but not yet on YouTube. Why is that?
TNT: Some other people have been friendly and put the stuff there, like live videos and such. We also have our personal youtube accounts so haven’t needed one for the band yet. Our label Soliti also now has its own channel there:
http://www.youtube.com/solitimusic
Go and see our videos there, as well as our groovy labelmates!

LOMW: What is the most beautiful thing you have ever written in your life as a band and how did you get inspired to write it?
TNT: Maybe the song “Pocketful of Sand” because it just came out of nowhere. We played it and said “that’s the song.” Nothing was thought in advance, it just appeared, and the version we recorded is almost the same as the first time we played.

LOMW: Which song would you like to cover right now and why?
TNT: La la la means I love you by the Delfonics because it’s a beautiful song.

LOMW:  It’s always interesting to know how the members of a band have met each other, is there any special story about The New Tigers?
TNT: We have known each other for ages. Turku is a small city so people who are interested in similar things usually know each other. The band was founded at the wedding of Appu’s brother in 2006 by Appu, Valtteri and the original drummer Kece. Janne joined some time later and Ville joined this spring as Kece moved to Switzerland.

LOMW: What are your future plans? Album, gigs, a trip to Greece, etc?

TNT: We just finished our new album “The Badger”. We’re very pleased with it. It comes out in september, and a single will come in august. After that we hope to play a lot of gigs, and Greece would be wonderful! We're going to play in Spain, so that's not too far from Greece (we know it is really far, but both are countries of Mediterranean sea, so it's definitely closer than Baltic sea.) Hope that would happen.
LOMW: Before we finish this amazing long-distance Q&A, I want you to salute the greek audience in Greek and the people from Finland, -that I believe they are called “Finns” – in Finnish! (Google Translate and Copy-Paste are allowed)
TNT: ό, τι καλύτερο!

MS MR-Hurricane

MS & MR (Miss and Mister) are a fuzz-electro pop duo based in New York. They start to earn public recognition big time. In their music videos you will see some things that will freak you out but their vintage sound will make you feel the chill right away. They created the band in 2011 and since then their albums are climbing the charts. "Hurricane" is talking about the darkness we all have as company in our minds.All the black thoughts and dreams. Are you ready to watch theirs? Read the lyrics and watch the music video of "Hurricane" here.

MS MR-Hurricane

Didn't know what this would be
But I knew I didn't see
What you thought you saw in me
I jumped the gun
So sure you'd split and run
Ready for the worst
Before the damage was done

Oho oho oho oh

The storm never came
Or it never was
Didn't know getting lost in the blue
It meant I wound up losing you

Welcome to the inner workings of my mind
So dark and foul I can't disguise
Can't disguise
Nights like this
I become afraid
Of the darkness in my heart
Hurricane

Ohoo oho

What's wrong with me
Why not understand and see
I never saw
What you saw in me
Keep my eyes open
My lips sealed
My heart closed
And my eyes peeled

Welcome to the inner workings of my mind
So dark and foul I can't disguise
Can't disguise
Nights like this
I become afraid
Of the darkness in my heart
Hurricane

Make ash and leave the dust behind
Lady Diamond in the sky
Wild light
Glowing bright
To guide me when I fall
I fall on tragedy

Welcome to the inner workings of my mind
So dark and foul I can't disguise
Can't disguise
Nights like this
I become afraid
Of the darkness in my heart
Hurricane

Arctic Monkeys-Do I Wanna Know?

They are the "Arctic Monkeys". If you don't know them yet, it's the right time to meet them. Their album "AM" just got released and the first song "Do I Wanna Know?" is on #LOMW. It's very strange that I found them recently! Those Monkeys have a bright future ahead. Sheffield seems to be another mother of great artists. Grammy Awards, Brit Awards, two successful albums and some of the best song-titles ever given. The question "Do I Wanna Know?" is the real expression of doubt that humans can have in every relationships. The music video is animated and here you can read the lyrics too.

Arctic Monkeys-Do I Wanna Know?

Have you got colour in your cheeks?
Do you ever get the fear that you can't shift the type that
sticks around like summat in your teeth?
Are there some aces up your sleeve?
Have you no idea that you're in deep?
I dreamt about you nearly every night this week
How many secrets can you keep?
Cause there's this tune I found that makes me think of you
somehow and I play it on repeat
Until I fall asleep
Spilling drinks on my settee

Do I wanna know
if this feeling flows both ways?
Sad to see you go
Was sorta hoping that you'd stay
Baby we both know
That the nights were mainly made for saying things that
you can't say tomorrow day

Crawlin' back to you
Ever thought of calling when you've had a few
Cos I always do
Maybe I'm too busy being yours to fall for somebody new
Now I've thought it through
Crawlin' back to you

So have you got the guts?
Been wondering if your hearts still open
And if so I wanna know what time it shuts
Simmer down and pucker up
I'm sorry to interrupt
It's just I'm constantly on the cusp
Of trying to kiss you
I don't know if you feel the same as I do
But we could be together if you wanted to

Do I wanna know
if this feeling flows both ways?
Sad to see you go
Was sorta hoping that you'd stay
Baby we both know
That the nights were mainly made for saying things that
you can't say tomorrow day

Crawlin' back to you
Ever thought of calling when you've had a few
Cos I always do
Maybe I'm too busy being yours to fall for somebody new
Now I've thought it through
Crawlin' back to you

Do I wanna know
if this feeling flows both ways?
Sad to see you go
Was sorta hoping that you'd stay
Baby we both know
That the nights were mainly made for saying things that
you can't say tomorrow day

Do I wanna know?
Too busy being yours to fall
Sad to see you go
Ever thought of calling darling?
Do I wanna know?
Do you want me crawling back to you?

LOMW: Καλώς ήρθες στο LOMW, Joel! Ελπίζω να απολαύσεις αυτήν την συνέντευξη μαζί μας. Πρώτα από όλα πες μας από πού ακριβώς μας απαντάς;

LOMW: Το Nottingham είναι η πατρίδα σου, στην Ελλάδα το γνωρίζουμε κυρίως από την ταινία με την Julia Roberts. Πώς είναι όμως να μεγαλώνεις εκεί; Ποιά είναι η καλύτερή σου ανάμνηση;

LOMW: Πάντα κάνω μια μικρή έρευνα πριν την συνέντευξη με τους μουσικούς. Στην σελίδα σου στο Facebook χαρακτηρίζεις την μουσική σου ως «ψυχοκεντρική και εγκάρδια». Τι σημαίνει αυτό και τι θα έπρεπε να περιμένουν οι ακροατές σου από την μουσική σου;

LOMW: Στην ιστοσελίδα σου γράφεις ότι μετακόμισες στο Λονδίνο για να εργαστείς για το κοινοβούλιο, άλλα τότε η μουσική άρχισε να γίνεται μεγαλύτερο μέρος της ζωής σου. Είναι η μουσική ένας βιώσιμος χώρος για σένα τώρα;

LOMW: Τι πρέπει να κάνει ένας νέος καλλιτέχνης ώστε να αποκτήσει κάποια δημόσια αναγνώριση σήμερα;

LOMW: Δισκογραφικές εταιρείες Vs. Ανεξάρτητη παραγωγή. Τι διαλέγεις και γιατί;

LOMW: Επηρεάζεσαι από «τον Θεό. Την ζωή. Την αγάπη.» Πώς ο Θεός σε επηρεάζει και σε εμπνέει να γράψεις μουσική; Πιστεύεις ότι αυτά τα στοιχεία συνδέονται μεταξύ τους;

LOMW: “Long Sleeves” είναι ο τίτλος του άλμπουμ σου. Γιατί θα πρεπε ο κόσμος να το αγοράσει κατά την γνώμη σου; Τι υπάρχει μέσα που να χρειάζονται;

LOMW: Όπως μου είπες, εμφανίζεσαι σε διάφορα φεστιβάλ αυτές τις μέρες. Είναι όνειρό μου να επισκεφτώ μερικά από αυτά. Ποια είναι τα πράγματα που σου αρέσουν και δεν σου αρέσουν όταν είσαι σε περιοδεία;

Joel xx

Interview: Joel Baker

  He is a very young and talented man from Nottingham. He knows what he wants and he's trying to reach his dreams. His music is something that can definitely cheer you up when you're feeling blue. After our brand new look on LOMW. We definitely needed a brand new entry for our long-distance Q&As. Today’s guest said a big yes right away, so with honor I present you Joel Baker! Childhood,music,God, future plans, tours...we've talked about everything! Enjoy! :)
LOMW: Welcome on LOMW, Joel! I hope you have fun with this Q&A. First of all, tell us, from where exactly are you answering this?
 JB: I’m writing this from my friend’s flat in Holloway, London – where I record all my music – whilst watching Manchester United vs Chelsea.

LOMW: So Nottingham is your hometown, in Greece we basically know this place from the movie with Julia Roberts. How is it to grow up there? What is your best memory?
JB: Nottingham is great. It is a town with a lot of good music right now – Jake Bugg, Dog Is Dead, Saint Raymond – and a lot of culture. Best memory of Nottingham was going to the park with my brother to play football every week.

LOMW: I always have a little research before any interview with musicians. In your Facebook page you identify your music genre as “Soul-centered and heart-felt”. What do you mean by this? What should your fans expect from your music?

 JB: I pour my heart out, and put my soul in to, everything I do musically. People should expect honesty, vulnerability, wrapped up in some moody production.

LOMW: A few words by you in your website are saying that you moved in London to work in Parliament but then the music started to become a bigger part in your life. Is music a life-living job right now for you?
JB: I still work for a Member of Parliament in the House Of Commons. However I’m leaving soon
LOMW: What has a new artist to do in order to earn some public recognition nowadays?
JB: Putting unique covers up on youtube are a good way when you’re starting from scratch. I always think good music will rise in the end, so just concentrate on making the best music you possibly can.

LOMW: Record Labels Vs. Independency. Which and why?
JB: Independency all the way. Find your sound. Create a national following. Build up an online presence.  Do it your way, then the record labels can’t tell you nothing! There’s still a place for labels though.

LOMW: You are influenced by “God. Life. Love.” How does God influence you and inspire you to write music? Do you think that those three things are connected with each other?
 JB: My faith influences my world-view, and my world-view influences everything that I write.

LOMW: “Long Sleeves” is the title of your album. Why should the people buy this album in your opinion?
What’s inside that they need?
 JB: Long Sleeves is good music, honest lyrics, with a unique sound. If people like feel-good organic music they’ll love Long Sleeves

LOMW: As you told me, you perform in various festivals these days. It is a big dream of mine to visit some of them. What are the things you like and dislike when you are on tour?
JB: You should visit! The UK has some great festivals. I really love being on tour, it’s a great feeling traveling to new places doing what you love doing. I’m going on my 2nd tour with an artist called Saint Raymond in Sept/Oct. I really want to go on tour in Europe.

LOMW: Before we call it a wrap, I want you to expose your soul and tell us what are your dreams for future? How would you love to see yourself in 20-30 years?
JB: Great question. I’ve got lots of dreams. Who knows which ones will come true, and what new dreams I’ll pick up over the years! In 20/30 years, I want to be more in love with Jesus, I want to have a wife and kids, a warm home, and a dog, first and foremost. I’d love to become a respected singer songwriter by then, have released two or three really great albums, and go on tour in America. It’s my dream to create a blues EP too. Finally, in about 30 years, I’d love to start working towards becoming a Member Of Parliament. I work in Parliament now, so it’s inspired me to become an MP one day myself.

LOMW: Joel, it was my pleasure to have you on LOMW for this long-distance Q&A. I wish all your dreams to come true and all your fears to fade away. The music path you chose is not the easiest one but I am sure that talents like yours, sooner or later get the recognition they deserve. Thank you very much for accepting my propose! I hope to see you one day in Greece!

JB: What a beautiful interview q&a. Thanks for having me! Anytime. Joel xx
