Patrick James-Message

Patrick James is a young talented singer and songwriter from Sydney! You will love his acoustic stuff and the uplifting kind of music he writes. His latest music video was created by an old friend of us, Mr. Jarrad Seng, the video producer of many Passenger's music videos. You will see a few beautiful faces and the vintage suitcases will give you the feeling of an old movie. The lyrics hide that sweet but unsecured sense that someone has when he makes a new start. You can enjoy the beautiful music video here.

Patrick James-Message

I don't wish for something more
But I hope to find those open doors
As I turn the key as I felt the rain
If I know it's all for the best of pain

I'll be, on my way
Running through the water
There is something for me out in the cold
Now I got myself into a tangle
But I'm just looking from a bad bad angle

When I'm scared well I seem to fret
It's a natural reaction from the top of my head
Broken lines and the wearing future
But I'll take the message and sing it back to you
I'll take the message and sing it back to you.

All I know is all I'm waiting for
All I know is all I'm searching for

Interview: Snow Ghosts

LOMW, 16/10/13, Hannah from Snow Ghosts replies to my Facebook message! “I’d love to have a long distance Q&A for LOMW, but maybe you should ask our label first!” And I did that. And we are here today!

LOMW: Welcome on LOMW, Snow Ghosts! Could you please introduce yourselves and tell us from where exactly are you answering this Q&A right now?
SG: Hello. Snow Ghosts is made up of Ross Tones, Hannah Cartwright, and (most our recent addition) Oli Knowles. Right now I am in a bar in Soho, London.

LOMW: Your debut album is out since July, but how did this band start and what did you have to do or maybe sacrifice in order to reach the point you are now?
SG: The band started after Ross and I met in London. I had only recently moved here but we quickly discovered that we shared a fascination for the darker side of English language and folklore. We became friends and started working together on various musical projects, despite both coming from quite different musical backgrounds. We released our first EP, ‘Lost at Sea’ through Black Acre Records; this gave us the opportunity to develop our sound for the release of the album with Houndstooth Records. Oli joined us this year and has added a whole new dimension to the band.
I wouldn’t ever consider anything to do with this project as a sacrifice. If anything, it provides us with experiences we could never hope to find anywhere else. For example: we have just spent a week writing the next album, recording parts in an abandoned 14th Century Chapel.

LOMW: Hannah told me she is new in this area and I had to ask “Houndstooth” the label for the Q&A. How helpful do you think a record label can be for artists like you?
SG: I think it allows you the space to concentrate and indulge in the music that you want to make, as they can help with the practical sides of releasing and promoting an album. Ross has released on several labels and owns labels of himself…so he is probably a little more qualified to answer. As I said, it is all new to me.

LOMW: Many talented people found their way to become popular by playing a cover from a famous song on YouTube or other platforms. If I asked you to cover a song, which one would be and why?
SG: I’m not saying this is something that we would never do, but I think that the writing and producing process is the most enjoyable aspect for us, so I find this a really difficult question.
We did have to perform a cover once when we played on BBC Radio 2…but they insisted it was something from their playlist, which was rather limiting. We ended up doing a version of a Bob Dylan song, as the show was on my Mum’s 60th birthday, and I dedicated it to her. It is nothing like our normal music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhk4lNhsmLg

LOMW: Do you believe that without social network the music industry would be the same?
SG: It was a different place before it…that is for sure…so yes, I think it would be very different.

LOMW: Your music videos have that dark feeling such as your songs. Have you ever written an up-lifting song? And from where do you get inspired?
SG: Individually, we have written uplifting music, but when we write together, it always sways towards our darker material. I strongly believe there is more beauty in darkness…and I’m quite happy to stay there… and keep Ross and Oli there with me to explore it.

LOMW: What are your plans for the future? Tours, gigs maybe another album?
SG: We are in the process of writing and producing our next release, after a week writing in a cottage in Dorset, UK. We will definitely be looking to tour, and we would love to come to Greece.

LOMW: Before we finish this interview,  I want you both to salute your fans! You can do it in Greek, too! (Google Translate and Copy-Paste are allowed)
SG: I’m afraid my Greek is non-existent (not sure about Ross and Oli?) but I promise to learn some if we make it out there. Hopefully see you soon xxx

LOMW: Thank you for being here with us Snow Ghosts! I wish you to stay as good as you are and have a big evolution in music! LOMW will be here to support artists like you!

Junip-Line Of Fire

Junip is a Swedish sophisticated rock band. The most known is Jose Gonzalez and the other two are Tobias Winterkorn and Elias Araya. They were formed in 1998 but their debut self-titled album was released in 2010. Their song Line of Fire is one of my favorite because of the incredible lyrics and music. The smooth voice and the strong percussion gives that contrast which puts you into deep thoughts about your life right away. "The video(s) tell the story of a tormented old man, stuck in a relationship that perhaps was not his choice, or preference to begin with. We see fragments from childhood, the first awkward kiss, the father watching over him. Making sure he follows the right path. The old man, like all of us, a person programmed by the convictions and beliefs of others. In the case of the old man, the unconscious suddenly manifest itself when a young, jeans wearing character appears in their home, forcing him to question who he really is." The music video was directed by Mikel Cee Karlsson. Check out this awesome band and remember to like our page: facebook.com/lyricsonmywall

Junip-Line Of Fire

What would you do
If it all came back to you
Each crest of each wave
Bright as lightning
What would you say
If you had to leave today
Leave everything behind
Even though for once you're shining

Standing on higher ground
But when you hear the sounds
You realise it's just a whim (/the wind)
And you notice it matters
Who and what you let under your skin

If put to the test
Would you step back from the line of fire
Hold everything back
All emotions and desires

Convince yourself to be someone else
And hold back from the world
Your lack of confidence
What you choose to believe in
Dictates your rise or your fall

With no one else around you
No one to understand you
No one to hear your calls
Look through all your dark corners
When you're backed up against the wall
Step back from the line of fire

I'd do the same as you would
Would do the same as you
Step back from the line of fire

Playing For Change-Guantanamera

Playing For Change is a movement for finding the soul of music in the streets. It started back in 2002 witht the production of the documentary "A cinematic discovery of street Musicians". The main idea is various artists playing their instruments live from different places around the world. Most of the times they are playing covers from famous songs and some of those times you can see popular artists such as Bono and Sara Bereilles performing with them! Playing for Change is the definition of indie-culture. You can watch their latest performance of Guantanamera by 75 Cubans of diaspora. Here on Lyrics On My Wall. Remember to support the street artists, some of the best diamonds are hiding there!

Playing For Change-Guantanamera

Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crece la palma
Y antes de morirme quiero
Echar mis versos del alma
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

Mi verso es de un verde claro
Y de un carmín encendido
Mi verso es un ciervo herido
Que busca en el monte amparo
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

Cultivo una rosa blanca
En julio como en enero
Para el amigo sincero
Que me da su mano franca
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera

Con los pobres de la tierra
Quiero yo mi suerte echar
El arroyo de la sierra
Me complace más que el mar
Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera
