San Cisco-Beach

Jordi & Josh & Scarlett & Nick are the members of San Cisco. I am convienced that natural talents are being born in Australia, in UK and in Ireland. And guess what... this awesome band was being formed in Australia! They started in 2009 but they knew each other from school. From weekend-jams to the top 100 of Triple J, they got many experiences! Now they are travelling around touring and they travel us with their indie-pop music. Right now we are going to the "Beach". Watch a sweet music video and read the lyrics here.

San Cisco-Beach

Hello hello
I’ve been waiting, watching you all night I don’t know why
in the morning I’ll be waking wishing I was right maybe sometimes
in the evening I’ll take you out for dinner and a fight
can’t read your mind, can’t read your mind
we watched the sun go down and then the moon come out
paint pictures with your hands, I'll chase you I’m your biggest fan

who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away
who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away

my mind is black and blue
it keeps pictures of you. now I know why
you moved away from here to another hemisphere
and all I want to be is in your company
I made a mix tape with all the songs that you hate
can’t read your mind I give up this time

who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away
who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away

oooooh oooh ohhh oooh oooh oooooh oooh oohh oooh oooh

I heard your voice today, but we last spoke in may
I still miss you
now you're a ghost a sea, drifting peacefully
you'll never come back to me, I read your eulogy

who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away
who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away
who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away
who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away
who's gonna catch you now who's gonna catch you now
running so far away so far away

James Vincent McMorrow-Sparrow and the Wolf

James Vincent McMorrow has been the love of my life for a long long time. He comes from Dublin and he was born in 1983. His young age wasn't the reason to write cheesy lyrics and music. He is a real storyteller and not all of his stories have a happy ending. Whoever listens to him gets different meanings of his lyrics. James has been quiet lately but he promised a new album to his fans and we are all looking forward to it. Until then, you can watch the music video of "Sparrow and the Wolf" and read the lyrics here.

*Don't hesitate to post your ideas about what hes says in this song. Is it about a divorce, about a break up, about a love story? What is it about?

James Vincent McMorrow-Sparrow and the Wolf

Sparrow and wolf lay as still as the blades of the grass
like worn leather boots, of colour and size that would last
caught them a lark in a trap, and each held a wing
then they tore it apart, before that small bird could sing

Confused by the wind, bruised by the size of the rain
she turned back to him, begged for love to remain
but plans have been made, all the furniture sold
so just store up your hate, use it for warmth when you're cold

For I have seen no joy, only danger,
I see no joy, only strangers,
I see no joy, see no joy in this world
should you, choose to go, please be careful of,
lonesome roads, men who travel them,
will not know, will not know of your ways

Still I have, seen no joy, only dangers,
I see no joy, only strangers,
I see no joy, see no joy in this world,
should you choose to go, please remember what
you have learned, from the little bird,
always dear, always dear to my heart

CocoRosie-After The Afterlife

Freak Folk.  Have you ever heard about that kind of music?  It is a mix of pop, opera, electronica, blues and hip hop. The CocoRosie duo is here to give us an example of what this music is exactly. Coco and Rosie are two girls who met each other in Paris and formed their band there in 2003. They have played in Europe, USA and elsewhere. Their last music video of "After the Afterlife" was published by Nowness and it's something between heaven and hell. Divine landscapes vs dark, mystical creatures are featured in the video. If you can't imagine what's afterlife, then you have many reasons to watch this video and read the lyrics here.

CocoRosie-After the Afterlife

Welcome to the afterlife
Welcome to the afterlife
(Repeat)

Sitting by the river, I think I smell some rain
Silver puddles glitter behind the old jail
Wet snails get wetter, crawling towards perfume
The air silks like snow
Moth wings crumble by a day-lit fire
Ash of dead wood pile
Higher, pyre for fox guts
Blazing mires

Welcome to the afterlife
Welcome to the afterlife
(Repeat)

Afternoon time, afterlife times,
Twilight's best for Venus flytrap
Cloudless drops tear at my cheeks
Bruised speaker raven's beak
Neon stars twinkle in the night
Sage smoke, rainbow, money signs

Welcome to the afterlife
Welcome to the afterlife
(Repeat)

The Lighthouse and the Whaler-White Days

If you read through their Facebook Page you will find out a few interesting things about The Lighthouse and the Whaler. The band was formed in 2009. The genre is  indie-folk-pop, even though the members claim that labels are not able to reflect what music is about. There is no Record Label and this is exactly what makes them even more interesting. They are from Ohio and they still live there but they have already caught the attention of MTV, Fuse, FILTER, Spinner, Under the Radar and other media outlets that cater to indie-folk-pop music fans. You can watch their debut music video of "White Days" and read the lyrics here.

The Lighthouse and The Whaler-White Days

Ink and Pen were under her hand,
The color leaked through the papers edge,
Compose words, what you meant to say,
Her words get stuck as her pen is swayed.

Don't--
Don't reply you have come to the end,
Like the boxes were slight,
I will never unfold, no never unfold
Hold your head high above what you meant
Don't pretend to repent
I will never unfold, no never unfold again.

Even when all her thoughts have passed,
The world seems clear now she's emptied her head,
Where she hides behind all the words she spilled
Like a veil of text that she's draped behind.

Noo---
Don't reply you have come to the end,
Like the boxes were slight,
I will never unfold, no never unfold
Hold your head high above what you meant
Dont pretend to repent,
I will never unfold, no never unfold

Even when her thoughts have passed her head seems clearer now
Her words are empty, lost and cold
She's lying to herself.

The Neighbourhood-Female Robbery

I guess I woke up kinda dark and moody, that's why I decided to post this song by The Neighbourhood. This band was only formed in 2011, but their impact was enormous. They used to be good friends and they were sharing their vision for an alternative rock band. So they did. Once they formed their band, they came out spreading a whole mystery about their lives, their history and everything. This mystery is still on but you can find out more about them by listening to their music. They call their genre "black & white" and this is exactly how they whole imagery of them is. B&W music videos, photoshootings, artworks etc. "Female Robbery" is a song that can make you feel different things. Its music video starts very weird. A woman  is speaking in French but the subtitles are saying the opposite meanings... What's true? That's up to you to choose.

The Neighbourhood-Female Robbery

I think I found help
I think I found something.
I think I found something in my TV screen.
I think I found out that I have nothing,
That I have nothing in this place for me.

I watched it all in my head, perfect sense.
They'll take me from me my bed,
Leave everything that is worth a single cent and just take me instead.
That TV show,
I saw as I feel asleep.
Had me on both my knees,
Praying to whatever is in heaven please send me a felon,
And don't let the police know.

Anything, anything,
Don't tell them anything,
Anything, please.

Anything, anything,
Don't tell them anything,
Anything, please.

I think I can tell,
I think I can tell them,
Tell them they were made for me.
I'm thinking they'll know, know it already.

I'm thinking they'll know just about everything,
I bet they planned it all out,
Like the shows
Went everywhere I go.
Walked into the store right behind me,
Stood in line right beside me and followed me to my home.
I'm sure they figured it out early on
That I would never run.
That they could shoot but that's not fun,
'Cause then they're killing their stolen son.

Anything, anything,
Don't tell them anything,
Anything, please.

Anything, anything,
Don't tell them anything,
Anything, please.

We're gonna die

Interview: Steve Burgos

Listening to music all day on YouTube comes eventually to a point, where I meet awesome people with the power of their talent.
Today we are here to talk about Steve Burgos. He is talking with us through another long-distance Q&A . Here it is!

Long-Distance Q&A

LOMW:Greetings from Greece, Steve!  I hope you are doing fine today! It’s our pleasure to have you today on LOMW.  From where are you answering this Q&A?
STEVE: Hello! I’m doing great today! It’s my pleasure to be answering you from my home in New Jersey, USA.

LOMW:  Do you have any roots in Greece? Your surname sounds a little Greek in a way!
STEVE: I have been asked this many times but believe it or not I do not! My roots lie in Spain. Burgos is a city in Spain I one day hope to visit!

LOMW:   Recently I was lucky enough to listen to a cover from you and since then I’ve listened everything uploaded by you.  Do you have a thing with empty rooms while you record?
STEVE: Thank you for checking out all my covers! The last few times I’ve recorded were either in vacant offices at my current job or empty rooms while redoing my house. The acoustics really sounded great in those rooms and I figured it was a good opportunity to record in them while they were open!

LOMW:  While I was searching more about you I couldn’t help but notice that in your YouTube Channel, you upload only covers and your originals are on Soundcloud only, is there a strategy hidden?
STEVE: I felt that before I can start posting originals on YouTube I needed to establish myself first. This includes picking more popular covers and gaining a few more subscribers to gain interest. I figured once I get a bit more of a following people might be more interested in what I have to say as both a writer and musician.  One thing I’ve learned is that it is a challenge trying to put yourself out there on YouTube and gather attention. I’m hoping my strategy of attempting to satisfy what people want to hear will eventually draw them to inquire more about who I am and what I have to say.
LOMW: You are a guitar specialist though in your originals I can hear more instruments, are all of them played by you or you prefer to collaborate with other musicians when needed?
STEVE: In all of my recordings thus far, everything you hear is everything I play. Along with learning the guitar I began to pick up other instruments. Many of which belonged to my brother but I eventually borrowed them indefinitely to learn to play them on my own. Over the years I’ve taught myself bass, drums, ukulele, some piano and most of what I know on guitar. I also adopted singing by observing friends growing up and singing along with my favorite artists such as Bob Marley. I loved the feeling of learning to play the guitar so I figured why stop there! My music has always been a form of self-expression, and I’ve always liked to have my hands on every instrument and every aspect of the sound. However, over the years I’ve had the chance to play and create with many friends that without I wouldn’t be where I am as a musician today.

LOMW:  “I can’t make you listen. But if you listen, I can make you think.”
This is one of the best things I have read. What’s the secret meaning though?
STEVE:  I’ve seen many musicians enter full biographies of who they are, what their music sounds like and why you should listen. In no way am I saying this isn’t a great approach to draw insight to who you are, it is, but for me it wasn’t. I could have written whatever I wanted in that empty space to draw attention to why one should listen. I found it was easier to address the point that I cannot make someone listen to my music. But if they chose to and truly listened, I could make them think about their life and how they live it. If you listen to my music you’ll know exactly who I am and what I stand for. I guess the ultimate goal was to generate a sense of curiosity.

LOMW: Covers VS Originals. Which one wins and why?
STEVE: Originals. No question! Covers are brilliant and really display a person’s talent to replicate another song. However, I think that more and more people attempting covers are doing it while lacking originality. They strive to mirror the exact sound and pace of the original. It should be about your style and your view on it! No one can tell you it’s wrong because it’s your voice and your art. On the other hand, original songs are the life of the artist. It allows the writer to uniquely address experience through his or her own eyes. It displays in sound the artist coming face to face with their fears, their hardships, their love, and what they believe is true. Keeping an open mind while listening to music can provide one of the most powerful insights into another person’s soul.

LOMW: What’s your opinion about the Music Industry nowadays? Does the internet help the musicians like you to step forward?
STEVE: The Music Industry is a business. It revolves around those that are generating the most revenue and creating the most interest in their respective fields. I think it puts money before the music. I can’t say that I’ve ever experienced the nature of the business but I can observe the nature of mainstream musicians. I think the business regards the artist’s image as highly as their music and to me that shouldn’t be important.
- The Internet absolutely helps us to step forward. For our generation everything is done and seen through the Internet. It brought you to hear my music from the other side of the globe! People who may not be ready to play live and perform can gain attention via the Internet. I think it’s been the perfect step towards becoming more comfortable with performing before physically putting yourself out there.

LOMW:  Do you have anything planned? An album maybe?
STEVE: As of right now, my current plan is to continue to write and turn my experience into something relatable, yet unique. As an artist there is an enormous amount of room to grow and learn and I believe where I am now is right where I desire to be. I’m not certain that music is something I will pursue for a living but it will always be a form of expression for me. I enjoy sharing my sound with the world and for right now that is more than satisfying. As for the future, I hope the day comes where I can’t dispute that this is my purpose and that I can make the sacrifices needed to become a full time musician. Until then I am content just being heard!

LOMW:  Is there any collaboration you’ve been dreaming of?
STEVE:  When I was twelve I heard the song “Taylor” by Jack Johnson and it immediately drew me to guitar. Since that day I’ve been playing and writing my own stuff. If I could create and play music with one person it would be Jack. His influence on my music and my lifestyle has been monumental.

LOMW:   What’s the most interesting thing you know about Greece?
STEVE:  Without question the most interesting thing about Greece to me is its history. From a young age I was taught in school all of the contributions Greece provided to the world. From mythology, to its influence on language and even the famous Greek philosophers, throughout history Greece has inspired so much of how we operate and think today.

LOMW:  We are coming to an end but before we finish this Q&A I have to give you your mission. For others it was to salute the Greek audience in Greek, but for you
-The cover-master- is going to be something different. I want you to find a Greek song that you like and tell me why you like it.
STEVE:  “Zorba the Greek.” I really enjoy this song! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpt72mXyFXw) The progressive increase in tempo makes it impossible to not want to move. When I worked as a caterer I had worked a few Greek parties and the response from everyone in the room was always wonderful. It created this great energy and I even found myself dancing (poorly) around the workplace! The pacing of the instruments develops such an addicting build up that you find yourself moving along to the rhythm and smiling all the while.

LOMW: It was really fun to have you on LOMW. I wish you the best and I am sure of a bright career in music.
STEVE: The pleasure was all mine! I’m honored you thought enough of my sound to ask some really wonderful questions! It is always nice to share and learn from a fellow music lover.

LOMW: Χαιρετίσματα από την Ελλάδα, Steve! Ελπίζω να είχες μια ωραία μέρα.! Είναι χαρά μας να σε έχουμε σήμερα στο LOMW. Από πού μας απαντάς;

LOMW: Πρόσφατα στάθηκα τυχερή και άκουσα  μια διασκευή σου και από τότε είδα όλα  σου τα βίντεο. Έχεις κάποιο θέμα με τα άδεια δωμάτια όταν βιντεοσκοπείς ε;
LOMW: Καθώς έψαχνα περισσότερα για σένα δεν μπορούσα παρά να προσέξω ότι στο κανάλι σου στο YouTube ανεβάζεις μόνο διασκευές και τα δικά σου κομμάτια στο Soundcloud, υπάρχει κάποια τακτική κρυμμένη;
LOMW: Είσαι ειδικός στις κιθάρες, παρόλα αυτά στα κομμάτια σου ακούω κι άλλα όργανα. Παίζεις όλα τα όργανα εσύ ή προτιμάς να συνεργάζεσαι με άλλους μουσικούς όταν χρειάζεται;

LOMW: «Δεν μπορώ να σε κάνω να ακούσεις. Αλλά αν ακούσεις, μπορώ να σε κάνω να σκεφτείς.» Αυτό είναι από τα καλύτερα που έχω διαβάσει. Ποιο είναι το κρυφό μήνυμα όμως;

LOMW: Διασκευές VS Αυθεντικά. Τι κερδίζει και γιατί;

LOMW: Ποια είναι η γνώμη σου για την Μουσική Βιομηχανία σήμερα; Το ίντερνετ βοηθάει τους μουσικούς σαν κι εσένα να πάνε μπροστά;

LOMW: Έχεις σχεδιάσει κάτι; Ίσως ένα άλμπουμ;

LOMW: Υπάρχει κάποια συνεργασία που ονειρεύεσαι να κάνεις;

LOMW: Ποιο είναι το πιο ενδιαφέρον πράγμα που γνωρίζεις για την Ελλάδα;
